"Treasure the ones you love. Tomorrow is not promised. Cherish the time you have with the people who matter the most. Enjoy and appreciate them. Make time for them. Love is action." ~ Akiroq Brost

Self-care doesn't have to be a solitary task. Spending time with loved ones can actually nurture personal growth and development. While it's possible to make progress on your own, it's still important to have a support system.

A support system is a group of people who collectively:

    • hold you accountable for breaking bad habits or sticking to good ones,
    • cheer you up when you’re having a rough time,
    • offer a listening ear when you need to vent,
    • make you laugh,
    • and spend quality time with you that you can’t get on your own

Studies show that social interaction helps you to live a longer, healthier, and happier life. Before you believe that no one's on your side, reach out. Connecting with loved ones can take your mind off of the issues you're facing or even help you overcome them.

Social interaction is an act of self-care because spending time with positive and caring people can boost your mood. It's a great feeling to receive love, whether it's from a friend, mate, or family member. You don't have to be in a romantic relationship to receive affection and attention.

Love is shown through actions, not mere words. Show your appreciation by regularly checking in, spending quality time, giving gifts, and even doing acts of service. Healthy and loving relationships positively affect other aspects of your life because your network wants the best for you. Never allow your negative thoughts to fool you into thinking no one cares about you because it's blatantly untrue. If you're suffering in silence, choose at least one person you trust enough to vent to. Someone cares and is willing to listen.
