"Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall." ~ Confucius

Failing sucks. Think about it. You put your effort, sweat and tears into something. Your anticipation rises, dreaming about the huge impact this project will have on your life and others. Then, the worst thing happens. It doesn’t work out. The positive vibration of feeling like you’re about to flourish has flipped into a negative, depressive vibration. No one wants to feel this way.

Avoiding the feeling of failure may be enough to hinder you. The comfort of staying the same probably seems more appealing than going for something with your all and losing in the end. I’m sure you will have excuses to explain why you haven’t started that business, created that habit, or made that big move you’ve always dreamed about.

Dreams will remain dreams until we begin doing something. Taking action doesn’t always mean that you will get it perfect. Consider what Thomas Edison said, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won’t work."

Keep these words in mind. Failure may be the right thing to help you flourish. Here are four reasons why failure is a good thing:

1. Failure shows you took action and got a result. In order to fail at something, you must at least try and do something first. This is already far more than most people will do for themselves. Some of us have trouble getting started.

2. Failure teaches you something you did not know before. While the result is not ideal, you still learned about what does not work. Without trying, you would not know this. This new knowledge can be shared with others or taken internally to improve and refine your action.

3. Failure builds your resilience. How you handle failure speaks a lot about your character. Do you hide in the corner of your kitchen, next to the baked beans, crying your heart out? Or do you give yourself a moment to grieve and get back up again.

4. Failure adds to your story. Adding failures, struggles and obstacles makes your story interesting. The biggest failures can create opportunities for new findings. Imagine yourself standing on the TED stage, sharing a story that will inspire others.

All in all, you can see that there any many benefits that come from failing. Don't let fear of failure be your reason for not getting started. In fact, embrace and look forward to discovering new failures as you pursue you goals and dreams. These are the milestones for flourishing. You are failing forward!
