Now that the new year is here, it brings with it a fresh start and an opportunity to look ahead at what you could accomplish in the next 12 months. Setting and achieving New Year's goals can be a powerful success habit for any teenager to learn and practice. Why? The process requires you to focus your energy, record and track your progress, use an accountability partner or mentor, make adjustments, reward your efforts, and bring what you want into reality (completion and achievement).
I believe there is a W.I.N.N.E.R. inside all teenagers, everywhere! Yet, the teens who truly believe in themselves: their hopes, dreams, education, and goals, learn how to courageously unleash the W.I.N.N.E.R. within by learning how to set and accomplish their personal goals properly. These tips can and will help you to prepare for and - Unleash the Goal Setting and Accomplishing W.I.N.N.E.R. in You - in 2020 and beyond.
Welcome the Concept of Setting and Accomplishing New Goals
The skill of goal setting and accomplishment is a powerful tool to learn and practice as a teenager. Setting goals helps adults and young people alike to create and have clearer ideas of where they like to go in life as well as how to get there. Goals also develop a positive and active mindset and help the goal-setter to feel more in control of their life's path. Before you start, think about why your goals are important to you and why you will not give up on accomplishing them throughout the new year. Your clear answers will ignite your purpose-driven drive to dive into the goal-setting process with an open mind.
Talk to a positive family member, supportive teacher or caring adult about the significance and benefits of setting and accomplishing new goals as a teenager. Ask this person, will they be your active and reliable mentor on your W.I.N.N.E.R. goal-setting journey, this year.
Imagine and Believe You Can Improve and Do Five Times Better
Now that you've ignited and capture your purpose-driven drive for the goal-setting process in the new year, I need you to turn up your imagination and belief systems to a higher level to take your drive to a more determined state.
Read and think on the following five thoughts:
1) "Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine, and at last, you create what you will." ~ George Bernard Shaw
2) "Whatever you want in life, other people are going to want it too. Believe in yourself enough to accept the idea that you have an equal right to it." ~ Diane Sawyer
3) Big Goals require big positive, productive actions and determined follow-through. ~ Ty Howard
4) "Tell your fears they are not allowed where you are headed." ~ Beyoncé
5) When you find yourself achieving one personal goal after another - like the Champion you are - the repeated deposits of reward and satisfaction become energizing. ~ Ty Howard
Now, image and believe you can improve and do five times better than you did with goal-setting and achievement in 2019, and move on to the next tip.
Notate and Put Your Goals in Writing
Goals should never be created and only stored in your head. Attempt to keep your goals only in your head, and your goals will soon end up disregarded and forgotten. Notate and write out your personal goals onto a single sheet of paper, use the front and back of the page if you have to. Goal-setting W.I.N.N.E.R.'s break their goals down into smaller parts and tasks to make things clearer and manageable. They also create a start-point and end-point to strive for, the time for which they intend to work on, complete and achieve a goal.
Once you've drafted your individual goals onto a single sheet of paper, post your goals in a place in your bedroom, on the refrigerator, on a mirror, or communal area where you will see them frequently. Seeing your posted goals daily will help you to keep them in the forefront of your mind. True goal-setting W.I.N.N.E.R.'s — believe in, hold onto, and see their dreams multiple times each day! Remember: Out of sight, out of mind.
Never Quit on You or Your Goals
There's a saying by Legendary Coach Vince Lombardi, "Winners never quit, and quitters never win."
Every goal-setting W.I.N.N.E.R. in life at one time or another reached a point of burnout, pain, exhaustion, fear, or self-doubt! Yet, they chose to not quit on themselves or their goals because their set written goals meant the world to them.
Your goals are your personal goals! They may not mean anything to someone else — but they should always mean the world to you. This deeply-rooted belief should be your inspiration and motivation to wake up each day driven to continue after every one of your set written goals for the new year like there is no tomorrow. Why? For you — it's PERSONAL.
To assist you on your journey of accomplishing W.I.N.N.E.R. level personal goals, I am also tasking you with the assignment to find and confirm an active and reliable mentor. A mentor is a caring, positive, and supportive adult who you know without hesitation believes in you and will be reliably there for you throughout your goal-setting journey. Your active and reliable mentor will be there for you when things are going great, during times of need for making an adjustment or having a thought-provoking discussion, and if and when you have self-doubt or do not believe you can accomplish your goal.
Encourage and Push Yourself Daily
When you need an extra motivational push, turn to sources that have helped you through to goal achievement in the past. Start by creating a music playlist of songs that get you pumped up, excited, and inspired. You can also turn to positive books, movies, videos, your faith, or a caring and supportive friend or adult.
And, do not forget the thousands of motivational quotes you can find online or in books from successful or respected individuals that can immediately change your attitude and mindset for the better. Thought-provoking quotes can reconnect you to your internal drive system and place you confidently back onto the W.I.N.N.E.R.'s goal setting and accomplishment path.
Intentionally encouraging and pushing yourself forward daily toward your goals will make you more optimistic about your set written personal goals, education, development, growth, and life.
Reach, Adapt, Adjust, Update, and Reward Yourself Repeatedly
The effort you put toward reaching a goal, not accomplishing the goal itself, is where the real payoff happens. Continuously set and adjust your expectations. Also, know there may be times where you feel like you're not achieving your goal fast enough or that you're failing at the goal-setting process. If this happens, go to your reliable mentor or a caring adult for help; they will step in to advise, guide and encourage you through your stuck point.
Special Note: Throughout your W.I.N.N.E.R.'s goal setting and accomplishing journey it will be required of you to repeatedly reach out (s-t-r-e-t-c-h) for your goal, adapt to a new challenge, adjust a step or two, update your plan of action, and reward yourself each time you complete and achieve a goal. Yes, repeatedly, each time. Remember: You're learning, practicing, and mastering 'The W.I.N.N.E.R.'s Goal Setting and Accomplishment Success Habit Development Process.'
While you're at it, have fun and stop to take breaks whenever necessary. Do not have too much fun or take too long of a break to where you disconnect from and lose sight of and belief in your set written personal goals for the new year.
Stay focused, purpose-driven, and stay the course through your 'Unleash the W.I.N.N.E.R. in You Goal Setting and Accomplishment' journey — and soon you will later find yourself sharing your gifts and talents with the world. Here's to Wishing You a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
